Ms. Katie Bins of the American Red Cross detachment serving with the 371st Fighter Group in the European Theater of Operations (ETO) gives the first “sinker” made in the unit on the Continent to the group’s Commander, Colonel Bingham T. “Bing” Kleine, at Advanced Landing Ground A-6, Beuzzeville (aka La Londe or Sainte-Mère-Église) Airfield, France, in the summer of 1944. The American Red Cross established a detachment and an Aero Club that stayed with the unit all the way through its combat service in the ETO, 1944-1945.
