We Remember Victory in Europe Day (VE-Day), 1945
Group Commander Col. Bingham T. Kleine was the wartime commander of the 371st Fighter Group. He is shown here in between two members of his ground crew, likely men from the 404th Fighter Squadron. The initial P.F. on the overall on the man at left suggest possibly Sgt. Percy M. Freer of that squadron. This picture may have been taken on D-Day, just prior to the group’s first mission that day, with the famous black/white recognition stripes visible on the wing behind them.
